CALL FOR ENTRIES: 2016 GREEN AUTHOR PRIZE (GAP) FOR NIGERIAN POETS

WORDS RHYMES & RHYTHM LTD (RC 1234112) is pleased to announce the ‘GREEN AUTHOR PRIZE’ (GAP) 2016 for young, unpublished Nigerian poets resident in Nigeria. Nigerian poets between the ages of fourteen (14) and twenty-four (24) who are yet to publish a book are hereby invited to submit their entries.

The GREEN AUTHOR PRIZE, now in its second year, was set up to give upcoming writers, who have been limited by the prohibitive cost of publishing in Nigeria, a chance to get published. It is the only book prize for poetry in Nigeria.

Four poets will emerge winners of an all-expense paid joint-authorship book deal worth N300,000. The winners will be selected from four zones – North, South, East, and West of Nigeria, by a panel of judges made up of established, young writers.

ELIGIBILITY:
1. Must be a NIGERIAN resident in NIGERIA
2. Must be between 14 and 24 years of age
3. Must not have a published book (traditional or self-publishing)
4. Must have evidence of age and state of origin

HOW TO ENTER:
1. Identify your zone by state of origin in the list below
2. Select EXACTLY TWENTY (20) poems in a Microsoft Word document using TIMES NEW ROMAN font. All the poems should be in ONE MANUSCRIPT
3. Indicate your NAMES, AGE, STATE OF ORIGIN and ZONE at the top of the document
4. Name the document with your NAME and Zone. E.g. “KUKOGHO IRUESIRI SAMSON – Zone 3”
5. Send your entry as an email to SUBMISSIONS@WRR.NG with the document [containing the 20 poems]as attachment
6. Include your contact details and 150 word bio in the body of the email
7. Subject of email should be entrant’s NAME and Zone. Eg. “KUKOGHO IRUESIRI SAMSON – Zone 3”
Below are the STATES and ZONES:
1. ZONE 1 –Benue State, Nasarawa State, Niger State, Federal Capital Territory, Kaduna State, Taraba State, Gombe State, and Plateau State
2. ZONE 2 –Adamawa State, Bauchi State, Borno State, Yobe State, Jigawa State, Kano State, Katsina State, Kebbi State, Sokoto State and Zamfara State
3. ZONE 3 –Abia State, Anambra State, Ebonyi State, Enugu State, Imo State, Akwa-Ibom State, Bayelsa State, Cross-River State, Delta State, Edo State, and Rivers State
4. ZONE 4 –Ekiti State, Lagos State, Ogun State, Ondo State, Osun State, and Oyo State, Kogi State, Kwara State
NOTE:
1. Poems can be on ANY THEME and any form
2. All poems must be the ORIGINAL work of the poet submitting it
3. Previously published poems (on social media, blogs and anthologies) are allowed
4. Where judges cannot find a manuscript worthy of publication in a particular zone, a suitable candidate will be selected or nominated from any other zone.
5. No sex discrimination, but Judges will not attempt to balance the sex ratio
6. Poets MUST be ready to FULLY participate in the marketing and distribution of the book after publication

7. The decision of the panel of Judges is final. No applicant should enter into correspondence with any of the judges
