OSUN Commissions ICT centre to aid learning in Public schools by Olaniyi Abdulwaheed
The government of Osun under the leadership of Ogboni Rauf Aregbesola has commissioned ICT training centre for teachers and students in Osogbo, the capital of Osun to enhance learning in public schools in the state and to help data gathering, processing and dissemination in the education sector in the state.
The commissioning which was done by the Deputy governor of Osun, Mrs Titilaoye Tomori was meant to improve teaching and learning in public schools across the state and to help in data processing.
Speaking with journalists, the Deputy governor said that the ICT centre that was commissioned would make students in public schools in the state to be computer literate, adding that directors in the education sector were being trained first immediately after the commissioning while teachers ' training would run during the holidays so that they would know what to teach students and pupils in their various schools.
She said further that the purpose of the ICT was to enhance education data gathering, processing and disseminating.
"This is a holistic approach in overhauling the education in the state. We want our students to be computer literate at elementary school so that they can stand shoulder to shoulder with other students around the world. The ICT centre will assist us in accessing information, data about education in the state to help the government in its plan towards enhancing quality education in Osun," she said.
In his welcome address, the chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board, Prince Felix Awofisayo represented by Alhaji Kamal Adekunle said that the advantages of the initiative were to ensure that all public schools cover the requirements of the curriculum in all subjects at all levels or classes ; enable every quality assurance of office to monitor the teachers' performance and so, discover the lazy and active ones, adding that it in knowing the unified rate of progress of learners in the state.
Commending the efforts of the state government towards quality education in the state, the permanent of SUBEB, Alhaji Fatai Kolawole said that the state government has taken a good step, saying that the scheme would help students in public schools in the state to be relevant globally.
