An African drummer - A poem by Kazeem Adio

An African drummer tells an unforgettable tale
His beats resonate happiness, Pain & heartbreak
With melodies entertaining the young and the pale

He pours his heart out through the sound that he makes
One moment it's loud,  and then it starts to fade
His message so real and occasionally  laced with rage

The drum, the beat it creates and the emotions it communicates
Is a strong reminder of who we are and how we interrelate.
How we understand 'love', in its many forms and shades
And how we express it without leaving out its enduring message.
