It had dignitaries from all over the country in attendance. The event which was predicted by many, especially in the literary world, to be a flop took a lot of people by surprise and turned out to be a huge success. It took place on Friday 15 th  December, in BBCM Auditorium, 28, Owokoniran Street, with a wonderful movie, just to help the traveling and already tired audience rest a bit, before awards presentation started.  The Award red carpet started at  8pm , as against  7pm  by Miss. a rich poor poet - By Abdulwaheed Olaniyi

the pen can shine and glow on the paper than the sun,  the lines may live longer than earth on the paper,  the readers die and live to read till eternity,  the hope of each poet then stir above the sky,  transforming the state of the state to the greater heights,  the poet enriches the minds, yet he is mean,  his words the eagle's eyes that mirror the land, from the far sky of sanity,  traveling in his mind, and every day, he cooks edible words  to feed his audience, he dines with his pen in hunger! yet he is hungry,  yet there is still fun in the sun, yet no need to shun, the fun of literature.

The Paradise from hell - Abdulwaheed Olaniyi

Some bury their hearts  in the charming awful risk,  Some lick the lips Of the shinning sun, Some hold firmly, the hell of money abreast,  Some sacrifice their fates for  their fortunes,  Some leave the haven and live in the desert,  Some cry to nurse their smiles.  To makes them the future of their lives,  They go through hell to give them paradise.  They are the parents building the paradise through the hell of time.

CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA: CAUSES, EFFECTS AND SOLUTIONS - BY ABDULWAHEED OLANIYI

Image
The major albatross of the country that is being claimed to be the giant of Africa and the largest black populated country in the world is corruption. Corruption is a parasite with venom of greed and selfishness, sucking Nigeria length and breadth. It must be killed by the ‘soldier-mind’ that is ready to unclad the cloak of personal gains. Corruption which is the sole enemy of this country exists fully or partially in the minds of every Nigerian. Why? It is the only desire that almost every citizen in Nigeria abhors in the mind knowingly or unknowingly. It is that desire they regard as the ladder to success in life. The corruption—either large or small—runs in our minds not because we are Nigerians, not because we have wealth, not because we have power and population but because our culture often echoes greed and selfishness into our hearts. Before the foundation of the world, corruption has been resident in the heart of man and it has been activated in the heart of every Nigerian

ECONOMIC REALITY; A WAY FORWARD FOR YOUTHS - BY ABDULWAHEED OLANIYI

Image
Many youths have always been the victims of one challenge or the other in the society. In Nigeria, they are being shortchanged along their ways to the future which dream they have in mind. In fact, if they are referred to as ‘the future of the country,’ the response to such nomenclature would generate different doubts in their minds. It has been from one problem to the other right from the birth of the country, Nigeria. The hope, sometime, looks bright but the realities of things in the country often confused many Nigerian youths into believing that their efforts are like pouring water in the basket. Many are graduates but no jobs. Many are intelligent but no right link to exhibit the same. Why? Many youths in Nigeria today have one or two things to offer the society but the problem lies in how and when to start. Some think that Nigeria is not a good place for them to nurture their dream while some still believe that they can soar in the country far better than others while

A REVIEW OF AKINLABI OLOLADE’S WORDS FROM THE LITERARY CHAMBER—By ABDULWAHEED OLANIYI

Image
Title: WORDS FROM THE LITERARY CHAMBER (A CHAPBOOK) Author: Akinlabi Ololade Ige Genre : Poetry Publication: pdf online Number of poems: 20 Reviewer: Abdulwaheed Olaniyi For years, Nigeria as well as other African countries has been suffering from one problem to the other. The story keeps repeating itself years after years. The causes of the problems are palpable but those who seem to proffer solutions to the societal menace are the major culprits of the hazard masquerading in the countries. Yet, writers, poets as well as human right activists cannot relent in their evangelism for a better society. They speak through the heart of their pens without any personal gain. Their words travel across different minds. So as an advocate of change in the society, Akinlabi Ololade Ige, in his chapbook, WORDS FROM THE LITERARY CHAMBER, speaks about the menace ravaging the country. Akinlabi Ololade’s WORDS FROM THE LITERARY CHAMBER, a chapbook marking one year anniversary of his

RODENTS - By Sodiq Lawal

Some squeaky grisly thiny fourlegged things Found some sofa stew. Saw some wooden okra Just to make the soup draw. Got some AU communique Just to garnish the fun. No cat goes away for 100 days And the mice won't play. You can't blame the rat If the rat rats out the cat. Aso Rock is a stage And the rat must play his part. Who would blame a landlord who Abhors rats? The rat is the concisest tenant: Doesn't pay rent, And the Londoners don't joke with that. White rats are lab rats. In London, they are good For experiment in hospitals. Black rats are house rats. In Aso Rock, they chase A landlord back to the hospital. Like in a yellow bus, change is asked for In a house where rats don't pay taxes. Maybe rats ate tax returns While the cat was away. Maybe rats went in turns Just to loot bags of cash away. Maybe cat is back laying a Trap for the rats. Maybe cat returns to row dents To shame... Maybe, maybe, This is childhood aga

My prayers. - By Saka Temitope Abdulmalik

Ignorance of what the future holds, Stream of thoughts, never ceased to flow, Bubbles chanting, Go!!! To where?let me know. Reverie, here you come again, with chain. To tie, rape my time and leave me with no gain, but pain. Pleasures,I seek to feel, not to imagine. Hush... Silence of the downtrodden. Reverie, your worst have been done, Stylux in the womb, waiting to be born Zero earning, to cater for the foetus. with God, Stylux and I are victors. God,I submit to your will, I know not,so let me take a chill, Feeble to the bone,I need milk, Please, take me to the peak. In tandem should be,my proposition With Your uncanny disposition. Stylux will live, I believe!

Guardian Vulture - By Sodiq Lawal

We eat in the same bowl with bare hands So clean I thought would also be our minds And down the deepest secret I shared And I feel secured with you being naked Your advice, I follow so keen Not knowing we drank different wine The colour in the glass was red I was drinking the wine, you tonic I was getting so much drunk You were refiling your blood tank And we hold hands like forever But your mind was evil ever You had claws you hid Unknowingly I cling too hard Your beak looks so attractive and harmless Not knowing it tears with wickedness You were waiting for the day to devour And fly off with your beautiful wings I was unaware that forever with you was unreal I sold my all and my next to you When we played like the young boys And I thought we both have the toy guns Till the prank fails and surprised When you shoot and the lizard shrugged If the nose was not wicked I should have smelled your fraud Or the stomach wasn't too light I should have

AN ENCOUNTER WITH LOVE. - By Saka Temitope Abdulmalik

Never imagined your existence, An abstract and unreal picture of you I had,no pretence. Until I saw a furtive wave, lurking towards me, Introspectively, what could this be? It was a she, with lustrous pulchritude. Angels are males, and Jinns, I can not see.... So,who are u?a mermaid? Into my hear you whispered,LOVE.. Out of their sockets,I found my eyes, Now clearer my vision, like hers, Hears widened,it sounded nice. So you are real! I exclaimed, with tears. Your hushed voice quenched my hunger,  Very actuated!hairs stood in each strand. I wished we stayed longer... Until the whining mosquito brought me from dreamland. Visited by you,I'm more delighted. The company of love birds, I'd say. A courtesy visit,I'd repay. To fulfill What you requested.

OPEN LETTER TO DEATH - By Ojuade Lukman

Dearly ender of life, You set out soon as I embark on my mission, To quickly detonate the bomb you planted. Forgot my address? You numskull! Tell me the cause of your delay. I carry the bomb everywhere, To remind me of your foretold visit. I also do my assignment even on the walk, racing with time against your approaching. Long enough I have expected thee, Until my heart go fonder. Yippee! I have imprinted my foot. Land tonight or ages hence, Death your are already late

The Man Who Can't Fall In Love -by Ojuade Lukman

Image
Supposing, not heart, bones break as we fall out of Love ,  Would you dare to fall in love over and over? Who would be that sense defective? Supposing Love is blind,  I'd see pretty Cintia and Lucas the albino framed on snap chat. 'Yeri and 'Younce the dwarf would be sighted hand in hand at the Orchid. Since Adam, the emperor in Cupid’s palace Love made Adam join Eve in her fall Is that true love or eternal witless? But for a lover of wisdom, a thinker, I firmly hold that Love camouflages in irony, That lovers soon become haters, Love holds the greatest potent for hatred, Just like death is precursor to life. Shall a seed grow unless it is buried? To truly love is to stand in love lest you break a hating. Rethink Love! son of man, only waters should fall.  Masculine and feminine, quiet t imaging falling. I suspect that Love is in truth conditional, Love, disguise, an enterprise of mutual profit. Shouldn't we stop deeming love as a pit here

CASSAVA PLANTATION - BY ADURAGBEMI BARNABAS

In the air of attic moment and springing game Pins of dreams pitched the tent Bucolic scenery captures imaginary breath Edges and ridges sprawl in length At the hut of night, mortar and pestle interact. Flash of sun induces creeping thought Through the paddle of canoe, ADEPATE interplays waters Thirsty, not of water, but of digging sweat In this trail, she built a thunderstorm afar in growing hills Echoes of unseen buried the blazing peddler. Shrink of view extends prevailing preference In bedroom of flowing waters, consciousness unlocked the gate She stumbled among the stem of thorny labyrinth Envelope of shadow eavesdrops comfort that lies in metallic lip She sang her luring songs at the crates of sands.    In the reign of strength that sustains eagle’s wings in sky ADELANA untie the knot of hidden route Chiefs submitted their royal beads to appease the prince Desperation ignite fire on village sacrifice In the eve of thought, he danced

MY FEAR, MY STORY - By Saka Sodiq Olawale

Image
From the lachrymal gland, through my eyes tear ducts, dripping the emotional liquid. I sat at the balcony, staring into space, wallowing in the sadness and lost in thought. This was triggered by ‘what is keeping you from marrying Bimpe?’ asked by a friend. For this made me remember the discussion I heard with my father years ago. I was with him, the unlucky man, and my question which stemmed out of curiosity, started his revelation of the hidden story. ‘Daddy, why is mummy always treating you like her disobedient child?’ I asked looking straight into the innocent eyes of my father. The year was 1993 and I was 8 years old then. My mother was the husband and the head of my family as I heard from our neighbors, silence used to be the order of the day for my father when my mother was talking to, or nagging at him,  I even witnessed her slapped him once, when he tried a manly action. “It’s a long story my son” he said as he beckoned to me with h
