CHILD DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP: CHEC ENDS THE YEAR IN GRAND STYLE

The year couldn't have reached a graceful end for CHEC team without their last Child Development workshop of the year.

The Child Hero Empowerment Campaign (CHEC) project, founded by actress and poet, Chinonye J. Chidolue, extended its anticipated outreach to the most talked about Modupe Cole Memorial Childcare & Treatment Center, 1 St. Finbarrs College Road, Akoka, on Wednesday 14th December, to empower the orphaned children in continuity of their humanitarian deeds.

The event which started at about 10: 30am was nothing short of a success and glorious ending of the year for the team.

Though the workshop met the absence of the founder; who was busy with the conclusion of her NYSC orientation program in Katsina state and some other members, who were absent due to one reason or the other, Eneji Stephen Toluwalashe, popularly known as Soul’e Rhymez and Miss. Uche Chidolue, represented the team.

The event started on a very promising note with Soul’e Rhymez forcing them to what looked like a quick start. The enigmatic writer doled out some dose of motivation to the kids, most of who are physically challenged. Relating to the great Napoleon Hill’s son, Blair, who was born without ears, but later could hear and went on to save people from the same predicament. He educated the children on the importance of their desires backed with faith to be successful, which was the major factor that helped Blair.

Aware of their physical disabilities, which they could see as limitations, Soul'e made the children understand that they are not disadvantaged, stressing that they are assets to the world if they are determined to be as they have what to give to the world instead of being at the receiving end always. He further motivated them with the story of Helen Keller, who despite became blind, deaf and dumb, some months after her birth wrote her name indelibly in the pages of history.

Immediately after Soul’e's speech, Miss. Modupe Lawal, a child psychologist and founder of 'Sew n Stone', who was the sole facilitator of the day, took over for the next two to three hours, teaching the excited and motivated children  the art of making hair bands and bows.

The children didn’t waste time in understanding her as they all made their own hair bands and bows. It was fun time especially as Miss. Uche Chidolue refreshed them with some snacks and drinks.

Miss. Uche who had earlier won the hearts of the children with her kind gesture, wrapped up the event by enlightening the children on what it means to be successful. According to her, to be successful means to be able to do what one has set his/her mind to do. She implored them to be successful in whatever they have been taught and set their minds to do.

The program ended at some minutes past 1.pm with a photo shoot of the team and the participating children, who displayed their self-made hair bands and bows.
